MM (Master of Management) with a Sports Administration Concentration

Admission Requirements:

Along with a general Master of Management degree, we offer two concentrations. Students interested in pursuing the Sports Administration concentration must meet the general admission requirements for the Master of Management program.

The Master of Management program offers a specialized curriculum in Sports Administration, providing students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to excel in the business aspects of the sports industry. This concentration not only equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within the sports business world but also prepares them for a successful career in this dynamic field.

What kinds of courses will I take?

MSA 401 Public Relations in Sports: This course explores managing public relations (PR) and media relations in the sports industry. Students will learn how to develop and implement effective PR strategies to enhance the public image and reputation of sports organizations, teams, athletes, and events. The course will encompass communication, crisis management, media interactions, and digital and social media utilization in sports PR.

MSA 402 Human Resource Management in Sports: This course will concentrate on the principles and practices of human resource management (HRM) in the sports industry. Students will delve into various HR functions such as recruitment, training, performance management, employee relations, and strategic HR planning, all customized for sports organizations. The course aims to cultivate the skills required to manage and nurture talent in professional, collegiate, and amateur sports environments.

MSA 403 Practicum in Sports Administration: This course offers hands-on, experiential learning to provide students with practical experience managing and administering sports organizations. It allows students to apply theoretical knowledge gained in their coursework to real-world settings, enhancing their professional skills and understanding of the sports industry. Under the supervision of experienced professionals, students will gain insight into the daily operations and strategic management of sports teams, events, facilities, or related businesses.

What can I do with this degree?

Athletic Director: Manages the athletic department of schools, colleges, or universities. Oversees sports programs, budgets, staffing, and compliance with regulations.

Sports Public Relations Specialist: Manages public and media relations for sports organizations. Develops PR strategies, handles crisis communication, and promotes a positive public image.

Human Resources Manager in Sports: Manages HR functions within sports organizations, including recruitment, training, performance management, and employee relations. Ensures a positive work environment and develops talent.

Sports Analyst: Uses data and analytics to improve team performance, strategy, and decision-making processes. Works with coaches and management to interpret statistical data.

Community Relations Manager: Develops and implements community outreach programs and corporate social responsibility initiatives. Builds positive relationships with local communities and stakeholders.

Sports Entrepreneur: Initiates and manages new ventures in the sports industry, such as sports academies, event management companies, or sports-related technology firms.
